[English]

Cotton is one of the industrial plants, which in most countries is known as a strategic product. The development of mechanized harvesting as a way to reduce 30 percent the cost of production could raise the competitiveness of cotton product and maintain the product in the country. Using defoliator before machine harvesting is necessary for cleaning harvest and high quality. Worried of reduced fiber quality due to the use of defoliator, was due to the implementation of this research. This project was carried out for two years in Cotton Research Station Hashem of Gorgan. This study was conducted by using a split plot design in randomized complete block design with two factors and three replications. Use and non-use of defoliator treated as a main factor and three cotton varieties of Golestan, Sepid and Oultan were considered as subplots. The results showed that the complex effect of defoliator and cotton varieties was affected singnificantly in 5% error on fiber length, finess and fiber ratio, while was not affected on fiber strength, fiber elongation and boll weight. The use of defoliator when at least 50 to 60 percent bolls were opened did not decrease cotton quality and quantity and could be used defoliator without any concern in seed production fields.
